Melodic death metal trio GYZE started life as the Sapporo-based SUICIDE HEAVEN, formed by brothers RYOJI and SHUJI in 2009. The band's name was changed when the members relocated to Tokyo in 2011.

GYZE's debut album, released in June 2013 by Italian label Coroner Records, was initially only available in Europe. It received a belated Japanese release when the band signed with Victor Entertainment in September 2014.

GYZE have worked closely with both members of Italian metal duo Disarmonia Mundi.
