All-girl pop-rock group MARIA have announced their disbandment via a message on their official website after over four years of activities.

MARIA was originally formed as a session band by former ZONE bassist and vocalist MAIKO in 2005. The group had its first official performance in July of the same year and was later signed by major recording label SME Records in September. Their debut single, Chiisana uta, came out in March 2006.

The reason behind MARIA's disbandment is the health problems of drummer TATTSU. She was diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome after facing numbness in one of her arms. Her doctor advised her to stop straining herself as her condition could get worse, leading to discussions between the band members and the staff.

Although it was suggested to the remaining members to replace TATTSU, they refused the idea and decided to break up after their contract expires in April. Their last concert will be held at Akasaka BLITZ, in Tokyo, on April 3rd.
