MOTHER (Limited Edition)

MUCC

Recently in Europe, Gan-shin released MUCC’s newest single, MOTHER, shortly before the premiere of band’s full album, Shangri-la.

MOTHER is a gentler song and lacks electronic parts, which MUCC has recently successfully integrated into its music. Its optimistic tone makes for a pleasurable listen. Tatsuro’s voice is warm, and the melody flows effortlessly. It could be a rather good ballad, but the guitar line keeps the pace quick and rockish. Miya also provides a powerful solo in this song.

MUCC didn’t throw away the electronic parts, though—they are back in their full glory in Negative Dancer. Throughout the song, Tatsuro's voice undergoes a series of undulating electronic modifications. In addition to its beat being suitable for the dance floor, the song will be perfect for a live performance, since there are many occasions for screaming and jumping along to the music. The only regrettable thing is that members and their instruments seem a bit pushed aside by the all the electronica.

Asunaru no sora is more like MOTHER, though this time we get a proper ballad. This song has a gentler melody and emotional vocals.Furthermore, the use of the acoustic guitar was a wise choice, creating a wonderful, full mood for the song.

This single is a one small pleasure MUCC is able to provide. Listeners—especially those who prefer a lighter MUCC—should appreciate it. It makes you yearn for more, and more you will get. Though a definitive date has not been set yet, the European release of MUCC’s new album is just around the corner.
