In 1998, a group of three musicians, Isshi, Izumi and Nao decided to create a band. All they needed to fulfill their plans was a guitarist and so they posted an advertisement in a local music store. The advertisement was answered by, amongst others, Akiya and Shin, who joined the initial members, forming CROW in October 1998, and soon after joined the record label Key Party. CROW was often referred to as the kuroi tori, which means black bird.

In 2000 CROW switched their label to PS COMPANY and changed their name to Kagrra,. In June, they played live under the new name for the first time and released a new demo tape. Kagrra,'s first mini-album, Nue, was released in December and, after quickly selling out, a second press was released in March.

March 3, 2001 was another breakthrough date in the history of Kagrra. It was on this day that they played their first one-man live at Shibuya, released their second mini album Sakura and opened their official fan club, auga. Additionally, in 2001, they released four singles related to the four seasons of the year. In September, along with Kagerou and Due'le quartz, they toured Hong Kong.

The year 2002 was busy for the band with the releases of a full-length album, three maxi-singles, two singles, two mini-albums and two VHS tapes: one containing concert footage and the other the PV for Yume izuru chi. It was definitely one of the busiest years for Kagrra,.

They continued with a prolific schedule in 2003, releasing two maxi-singles, a mini album and their first live DVD. In December, Kagrra, performed their last indies show and went major on January 1, 2004, changing their name to Kagrra,. It was celebrated by the release of their first major single, Urei. A couple of months later, in March, they released their first major album, Miyako. In addition to these many releases during the year, Kagrra, also released two DVDs.

Isshi and Izumi kicked off 2005 with a special talk event in Shinjuku ONE LOFT during which they told ghost stories. This special talk event has since become a tradition for the band, the event taking place every year around Valentine's Day. For the rest of the year, they spend it on mostly single releases and lives. They closed out their year by playing with their label-mates for PS COMPANY's Peace & Smile Carnival tour.

2006 was somewhat a breakthrough year for visual bands, giving them a boost toward a more mainstream audience with some of them recording songs for anime series. Kagrra,'s Chikai no Tsuki was featured as an opening for the TV series "Kinnikuman II Yo Ultimate Muscle 2." That summer, they went on another tour and before the year ended, they released another DVD, a maxi-single and a photo book.

Kagrra, kicked off 2007 by releasing a new album, shizuku, in February and then May witnessed their first live in the United States as they performed at the J-Rock Revolution Festival in Los Angeles. From June till the end of the year, the band worked on recording and producing future releases and transferring record labels from Columbia Co., Ltd. to King Records. Towards the end of the year, in November, Kagrra, performed their first live in Europe at J-Rock Invasion in Cologne, Germany with other PS COMPANY artists.

Their first release from King Records, their fourth album Core, came out at the very beginning of 2008. In March, they did a tour for Core and then it was back to recording and producing new releases the next month. In August, Kagrra, did their first one-man tour in Europe, only going to five places but gathering 3,000 fans. They ended the year with the release of another single and a one-man tour.

To celebrate PS COMPANY Company's 10th anniversary, Kagrra, along with other PS COMPANY bands participated in the Peace and Smile Carnival Festival on January 3, 2009 at the Budokan. It was announced that Kagrra, would do a South American tour in February but it was postponed due to visa problems. The new South American tour later came to fruition in July that year.

The year 2010 was a difficult one for Kagrra, fans. Considering how aggressive the band was in the past with releases and live performances, fans were shocked when a couple of bad news announcements hit them. The first round of bad news came in August when Isshi had problems with his voice and had to seek medical treatment. Then, not even two months later, it was announced that Kagrra, would cease activities. To add salt to the wound, the band expressed that they didn't want to use the word "disband," but wished to call it a "demise."

As a goodbye to fans, Kagrra, released their final album titled Hyakkikenran on February 2, 2011 which was followed by their final tour. The tour began on February 13 and ended on March 3 at the C.C. Lemon Hall in Tokyo.
