Vocalist Keiyu, guitarist Mai, bassist Yuhra and drummer Yasuno formed Kra in August of 2001 with practically no previous musical experience. As a new band, much of their performances took place at small events where they were given an opportunity to introduce themselves and their sound to seasoned audiences.
In 2002, after the release of two demos and a steady increase in popularity, Kra signed with the label PS COMPANY. From here, they released their first mini-album Boku to no Himitsu in October.
This transition to PS COMPANY helped to jump start their career and in the next year they released four more mini-albums. They were also able to participate in larger events and performances including Beauti-Fool's Fest '03.
During 2004, Kra pulled a fast one on fans: they released the EP Fiction under a secret name, 36481?. The side-project would be later considered an alter-ego band, one which covered songs by other PS COMPANY bands as well as their own.
In 2005, Kra went on tour with the rest of the PS COMPANY bands for their massive Peace & Smile Carnival Tour, which was subsequently released on DVD. Following label mates Kagrra, and MIYAVI, Kra went major in 2006. They celebrated with the release of a new single, Heart Balance, as well as a final indie tour and first major concert, which took place in December 2006 at C.C. Lemon Hall in Shibuya.
2007 was a productive year for the band. In March they released their long-awaited first full-length album, dhar.ma, and a DVD entitled COURT of JUSTICE, which was a live recording of their aforementioned first major live. Following the release of the mini-album, Creatures, they took part in JRock Invasion, a show in Germany, which also featured Alice Nine, SuG, Screw and Kagrra,. After returning to Japan, they also participated in Zy magazine's seventh anniversary celebration, stylish wave ILLUSION '08, which was held over two days in January of 2008.
Kra released two new singles, Yell and Kizuna -kizuna-, in the first half of 2008 and their album Escape was also released in Europe through CLJ Records; this was soon followed by another flurry of releases which would carry them into the winter months.
At the beginning of 2009, PS COMPANY celebrated its tenth anniversary with another edition of the Peace & Smile Carnival event at Nippon Budokan. The event featured all of PS COMPANY's bands, including those from their indie label. Additionally, foreign fans were given the opportunity to purchase tickets from overseas in order to attend the live.
In February, the band held a one-man and just two months later participated in TOKYO VISUAL FESTIVAL -ZERO- alongside ayabie and Kagrra,. That summer, following up the spring release of their new album Life~Today is a very good day to Die~ , the band held a mini tour through June.
Kra rang in the new year with the best-of album Twinkle star. That spring, the band announced several new releases, and by June it was announced that keiyu would participate in the PS COMPANY super band, THE TOKYO HIGH BLACK alongside Kagrra, and Alice Nine. Their first live was held at the end of May at SHIBUYA-AX.
By late fall, the band began their tour Heart to Heart ~Kanjou no rinkaku~ and saw the release of the album GURICO. It seemed the only direction Kra could go was up, but in December, fans were dealt a surprise: Mai announced that due to health complications, he would be leaving the band. The tour final was on December 28th, where fans received their chance to say goodbye to Mai.
In January 2011, the United States saw its first Kra release, when Twinkle Star debuted. Several months of silence followed before in April it was announced that Kra had found a new guitarist: Taizo. Along with this joyful announcement came the news that the band would be releasing a new maxi-single, Fushigi na sekai kara no shotaijou on June 1st.
The summer looks promising for Kra: the band is participating in PS COMPANY's TRIBAL ARIVALL TOUR 2011 as well as the seven-day Peace & Smile Carnival 2011 in August. Alongside Kra will perform THE TOKYO HIGH BLACK as well as many other PS COMPANY bands.
