Himuro's musical debut was arguably during his high school years, when himself, Matsui Tsunematsu and two other school friends formed the amateur band Death Penalty in 1976. This group then went on to perform at the YAMAHA sponsored event EAST WEST '79, at which they won.

Throughout the years 1981 to 1988, Himuro performed alongside Tomoyasu Hotei in the group BOØWY. Following the disbandment of BOØWY in 1988, Himuro embarked on his solo career. On July 21st, just three months after the disbandment of BOØWY, Himuro released his debut single ANGEL. Shortly after, he commenced on his first solo tour entitled KING OF ROCK SHOW "DON'T KNOCK THE ROCK."

Two months later, Himuro released his debut solo album Flowers for Algernon which peaked at number one on the Oricon chart. This was shortly followed by Himuro making a brief guest appearance alongside STING at his performance in the Tokyo Dome. Then, from December 12th to 15th, Himuro ventured to Hong Kong to conduct a short tour entitled KING SWING which was held at the QUEEN ELIZABETH STADIUM.

In 1989, Himuro performed as a guest at a concert held by Charlie Sexton, who is best known as the backing guitarist for Bob Dylan and has worked with Himuro during his career. On August 6th, at the HIROSHIMA '89 LIVE, Himuro made a secret guest performance under the alias sp≒eed. A few months after, Himuro made a guest appearance at the last concert of rock band A.R.B which was held in the Yoyogi Gymnasium.

With the release of KISS ME in late 1992, Himuro achieved his first million selling single and the following year, with the album Memories of Blue, he sold more than 130,000 copies.

On March 7th 1995, Himuro made an appearance at the Hanshin Great Earthquake charity concert and in October moved from the Polydor label to Toshiba EMI and created his own independent label "BeatNix." Then in 2000, Himuro celebrated his 15th anniversary as a solo artist and released the best album Case of HIMURO, which featured works from throughout his career.

On August 22nd 2004, Himuro held the concert 21st Century Boowys VS HIMURO which showcased songs from his time in influential rock group BOØWY. This would be Himuro's first time to do so since parting ways with the group and around 50,000 fans gathered over the length of the national tour. In November, Himuro confirmed his purchase of the partial residence of NBA player Shaquille O'Neal which is located in the Beverly Hills area in Los Angeles. It was reported to cost around 7,000,000 yen.

The following year signalled the release of the highly anticipated Square Enix movie "Final Fantasy VII Advent Children". The movie which featured the song CALLING from Himuro's 1989 album NEO FIASCO in the ending credits.

On August 5th and 6th 2006, Himuro performed alongside GLAY at an event entitled KYOSUKE HIMURO+GLAY 2006 at AJINOMOTO-STADIUM "SWING ADDICTION." On November 11th, at one of GLAY's performances in Kyoto, Himuro made a guest appearance during their encore set. On July 16th the following year, Himuro appeared as a surprise guest at the ap bank fes '07 to the delight of numerous fans who had not been informed of his presence at the event.

The year 2008 signalled Himuro's 20th anniversary as a solo artist and he commenced on his KYOSUKE HIMURO 20th anniversary TOUR 2008 JUST MOVIN' ON -MORAL~PRESENT- tour from July 20th, which began at Saitama Super Arena. On September 21st, at his performance in Sapporo, GLAY made a special guest appearance to perform ANSWER and SUMMER GAME.

To further commemorate his anniversary in 2009, Himuro re-released eight DVDs: five of which were formerly limited to VHS format only and three that were previously available on DVD. In April, Himuro also released a collaborative single entitled Safe And Sound which was limited to iTunes only and featured vocals from Gerard Way, who is best known as the vocalist of My Chemical Romance.

Himuro has established himself as an unstoppable force since his departure from BOØWY and has scored himself a respectable number of hits and timeless classics. One can only hope that Himuro will further cement his place in music history in the near future.
