Handled by the omnipresent Universal Music Japan, the four-man band ROSSO (meaning "red" in Italian) was formed from previously well-known bands. Yuusuke was once a member of thee michelle gun elephant, Toshiyuki from Blankey Jet City while their first drummer came from a band called ASSFORT. During the mid-2002 February they started to record their first album, BIRD. They finished recording in an amazing two weeks and the album hit stores that April. That same year, ROSSO played twelve shows in the ALL NIGHT EVEN TOUR "weekend lovers" with LOSALIOS. In August, ROSSO played at the RISING SUN ROCK FESTIVAL 2002. After that, Yuusuke decided to go back and dedicating himself to thee michelle gun elephant and the first stage of ROSSO came to an end.

When thee michelle gun elephant disbanded in 2003, ROSSO began their second stage. Pulling in Imai Akinobu from FINAL, they also added drummer Satou Minoru to the lineup. They started recording in July 2004 and that winter they released one single and an album.

The beginning of 2005 saw their first collaboration with the band ZAK and together they recorded the single, VANILLA. A week after the single was released, ROSSO started a two-month DIRTY KARAT TOUR. From this, MUDDY DIAMON SESSION was born, their first DVD! Throughout the spring and summer months, they played in festivals across Japan such as the ARABAKI ROCK FESTIVAL and opened for FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL '05 among others. In November, ROSSO released a live album titled DIAMOND DUST ga Futta Yoru. By the end of this year, their biggest year ever, ROSSO was exhausted and rightfully so.

In 2006, ROSSO announced that they would disband. Their disbandment was official with the release of their mini-album, Emissions on June 7th.
