In 1998, Miki and Ujuan met each other in a studio in Kawasaki. Both of their bands had just disbanded and they decided to start a new band together. After Yuki joined them, their project started for real, and Guitar Vader was born.

They released their first album, Die Happy, on the label Berry Records in 1999. This album was a combination of their two demo tapes, which had been on sale in only a few stores and had been released in a limited amount of copies. Next to the songs on the demo tapes, the band also added five new tracks to the album.

Near the release of their second album, Yuki left the band. Nevertheless, they succeeded in getting more famous, in and outside of Japan. The songs Super brothers and Magical Girl were used for the SEGA DREAMCAST game 'Jet Set Radio,' which helped them to gain some recognition in Europe and the USA.

Their next release was a remix-album in 2001 and again they participated in a console game. 'Jet Set Radio Future' became accessible to an even broader audience when it was developed for the Xbox. In the same year, the band also released the album From Dusk and a new drummer, Suzuki joined the band.

After a long break the band returned, this time on their own label. After they released the album Dawn, they had a tour in the United Kingdom. Steve Laity, an American musician, joined them as a support keyboard player during lives.

Their last release; Happy East was back in 2004 and the band was on a break again although there was no official statement and there were no details to be found.
However, in May 2006 they planned to perform in the USA, at the Fanime Musicfest in California. Unfortunately, Ujuan fell ill with a viral heart infection and the performance was cancelled.

Confirmation was made by Laity on the official Guitar Vader message board in August of the same year that there was "a very large riff between the two most important members of the band.” He also stated not to “hold your breath for a new Guitar Vader album.” No official statement had been given, and the official site had not been updated since the release of the Happy East back in 2004.

The status of the band and condition of Ujuan remains a mystery.
