Kimura Kaela

Kimura Kaela Rie was born in Adachi, Tokyo on October 24th, 1984 to a British father and Japanese mother. Kaela's first appearance in Japanese pop culture was in 2002 when she began modelling for the idol magazine "Seventeen". Whilst modelling she learnt how to play the guitar and writing her own lyrics to accompany her music. Despite applying her talents to music, from April of 2003 to March 2006, Kaela was the co-presenter of a popular TV show titled ‘Saku Saku’ alongside the main host, a temperamental, polka-dot creature called Zigorow.

Regardless of her dedication to ‘Saku Saku’, Kaela released her first single, level 42, in June 2004 under the major label "Columbia" and ranked #14 on the Oricon chart. It was in December of the same year that she released her first album, simply titled "Kaela".

Her break-through into becoming a household name followed with the release of Rirura riruha, which was used in a series of Vodafone commercials. The B-Side Twinkle featured on the love for nana ~only 1 tribute~, on which she featured alongside firmly established bands and solo artists like Tommy heavenly6, SEX MACHINEGUNS, Do As Infinity, Otsuka Ai, and ZONE.

Kaela’s success in 2005 reached a pinnacle when she embarked on her first nationwide tour which was released on DVD shortly after its conclusion. To finish off the year, Kaela released her fourth single titled Beat in October.

In 2006, Kaela covered the internationally recognised song ‘Pretty Woman’ for the drama Attention Please. Alongside producing the theme song for the drama series, Kaela also starred in the drama with Ueto Aya. Kaela also joined the Sadistic Mika Band as the new vocalist in 2006 as well as collaborating with the British power pop group Farrah on tracks for her upcoming album. All in all, 2006 was an incredibly busy year for Kaela, particularly with the release of her new album Circle which was released in March.

As of 2007, Kaela has released the single Snowdome and fans have the excitement of looking forward to her third solo album Scratch which is set for release on February 7th.
