LADY

LADY

LADY was formed in Nagoya by four friends, Akinori on vocals, Motoki on guitar, Takamasa as the bassist and Kei on drums. The band became well-known after signing onto the label, Donut Records West, in October 1998. That same month their first demo-tape was released with 500 copies. Following this release was several months of concerts until they released their first mini-album, yajuu ~nokemono~, in April 1999. They went on tour after this release, and then released a second mini-album at the end of the year, but took a break soon after.

After their break, in March of 2000, LADY announced the unfortunate news of Motoki and Takamasa leaving to join other bands. The remaining two wanted to keep the band alive, and as a result they invited new members to join. For this new line-up, three members joined, including haruca as guitarist and KARy from ex-Sellen as bassist. Their former roadie and ex-Kreshend member, Sera, joined as the second guitarist. With these new members, the group decided to change the writing of the band name to LADY as a sign of a new beginning.

For the next year they released their first single and mini-album with this new formation. Other than these releases, they kept quiet for awhile, performing only a few concerts until July 2001. In July of 2001 they became active, releasing their fourth and fifth mini-album. These mini-albums were covers of the most well-known songs from the first LADY period.

In October 2001, Kei decided to leave the band and end his musical career completely. The next release was a single in December. For the next eight months after this release, it was a quiet time for the band with little information about band activities until the four remaining members played their last live at the Nagoya Club Quattro on August 18, 2002. Two months after this last live, LADY released a final video entitled No music no life.

After leaving LADY, it did not take long for Takamasa to find a new band. His new band, deadman, was also from Nagoya and became very well-known in the visual kei scene, however he was only with deadman for a short period of time. Motoki started Sixstar, before he went to Amexan, but both bands disbanded. Sera and haruca founded Rodeo Draiv in 2003, although haruca was known as hiroki in this band. However, this band was short-lived as they had already separated by the summer of 2004.

Akinori reappeared on stage later on with several session bands, where he was accompanied by Motoki and Takamasa on a few occasions. In 2006, he played in a session band with haruca, though the band has not made a public appearance. Then sad news came out in spring that KARy had passed away on March 9th, 2004 at the age of 22. His cause of death was unknown, but it was believed to be of natural causes.
