acid android performed for the very first time at Shibuya Club Asia on May 23, 2001, as part of the special event titled acid android in an alcove. The band's founder and leader, yukihiro, performed as guitarist and vocalist. A few months later on the 27th of September, acid android's first CD, Ring the Noise, was released on the major label Ki/oon Records. After the release of the band's first single, there was little activity on their part until the following January, when they performed a concert as a guest for the band crow.

Exactly a year after the release of Ring the Noise came the highly anticipated album, acid android. The album was originally only available for order over the internet until its full commercial release in March 2003. The self-titled album was a dark and brooding affair that contained a heady mix of minimalist programmed drum tracks and heavy guitar blasts, electronic noise and industrial style strangled vocals.

A week after the commercial release of acid android came its follow up mini-album, faults, which featured the vocal talents of British singer Tony Halliday. A promotional tour followed that lasted until May of 2003. During this year and 2004, acid android took part in BUBBLE FESTiVAL, an event held by SONS OF ALL PUSSYS, the band of his bandmate from L'Arc~en~Ciel, ken, and also of former drummer Sakura. The tour, which passed through many cities in Japan, featured many bands, like MONORAL, deadman, MUCC and HYDE's solo project, and also members of L'Arc~en~Ciel.

In 2004, the DVD acid android live 2003 was released with scenes from shows of the previous year. However, 2004 and 2005 were quiet for acid android, due to yukihiro's commitment to L'Arc~en~Ciel, which had returned to work. Apart from performances at the yearly Danger Crue presents ... events and performances supporting MUCC, the band was relatively inactive. However, 2006 brought the release of the single Let's Dance (which was mixed in Berlin, Germany) and the album Purification. On April 19th, the band performed as the support act for the US hard rock group KoЯn during their Japanese tour. In addition they also supported MUCC before continuing once again on their own solo tour. At the end of that year they released two documentary books, acid android archives side-a and acid android archives side-b. All release and live activities ceased soon thereafter.

In February 2010, acid android returned to life with their first tour's live at Shibuya-AX. During the rest of the year the group kept with the tour across the country and released the new album, 13:day:dream, in July; it is the first release from their own indie label, tracks on drugs records. The album was followed by the single Code. In September, acid android performed at D'ERLANGER presents ABSTINENCE'S DOOR ♯006, a two-day event presented by D'ERLANGER at Shinkiba Studio Coast and streamed online for the whole world.

While activity was quiet through the winter and into the early months of 2011, acid android soon broke that silence with the release of the live DVD, acid android live 2010. Two months later, it was followed by the much anticipated full-length album, alcove / #1, which reached third place on the Oricon Indies chart. In July the book acid android archives - extended. was released; it is sequel of the book previously released in 2006 and features interviews and pictures of the group's activities until then. In the following month they performed the acid android live 2011 at CLUB CITTA Kawasaki.

From this moment on, yukihiro's activities with L'Arc~en~Ciel intensified again, but acid android came back in October 2012 to perform in BUCK-TICK FEST 2012 ON PARADE, an open-air live at Chiba Port Park. Bands like MERRY, MUCC and Pay money To my Pain also played there, alongside with BUCK-TICK, the band hosting the event.

In November yukihiro started his new musical project geel sleep sheep. Like in L'Arc~en~Ciel, yukihiro plays the drums in this project, with kazuhiro momo (MO'SOME TONEBENDER) on vocals and guitar, and 345 (Ling tosite shigure) on vocals and bass. The band performs sporadic lives between L'Arc~en~Ciel's and acid android's activities. From this same month they carried out acid android live 2012, a tour that went through Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya. The acid android live 2011 DVD was released on the following month. During the end of the year and beginning of the other, acid android was quiet, coming back in April for the acid android live 2013 at LIDQUIDROOM Ebisu in Tokyo.
