Born in 1979 on the countryside in the Kumamoto region, Tomiko Van began her singing career by singing in a club after graduating from high school. Since she wanted to study fashion, she moved to Tokyo where she worked for a time as a model for the hair care brand Lavenus. After this she auditioned and was selected to become the singer of Do As Infinity. Also at this time, Tomiko was pursuing a small solo career with the song Again featured on the Song Nation album and the trans-music project Cyber X.

After Do As Infinity split in 2005, Tomiko made a brief appearance on the original soundtrack of the "Slow dance" drama and by the end of the year, she performed a song for the Disney cartoon "Cendrillon". March 2006 then saw the release of Tomiko's first album, Farewell. It was received well: it ranked 7th on the Oricon charts. The single Yumeji followed later that year.

In 2007, she ventured into another part of the entertainment industry: acting. She had a role in the movie "Heat Island". Next to the big screen, she also performed in theaters as part of the cast of the Japanese adaption of the American musical "Brooklyn". She released one album that year, the cover album Voice ~cover you with love~. It was the first of two cover albums, the second being Voice 2 -lovers rock-., which came out in March 2008 and featured covers of songs by male artists.

In the same year, two more releases followed. The single Tokyo biyori and her second original album, which bore the straightforward title Van.. In September it was announced that Do As Infinity would continue its activities again. Therefore it wasn't surprising that when Van. came out in December, the track list contained a number of new songs, but mostly it was a collection of previously released tracks; a summary and conclusion of her solo career.

Since then, Tomiko Van has been focusing on Do As Infinity. Perhaps one day she will return as a solo artist and treat her fans to new work.
