In summer 2006, YOSHIKI stunned fans when he announced during his question and answer panel at the American anime convention Otakon in Baltimore, Maryland, that he had been discussing starting a band together with GACKT. At that time, no other information was revealed, but that didn't stop fans from getting excited about the possible upcoming project. As if YOSHIKI and GACKT teaming up wasn't already too good to be true, YOSHIKI created another stir on December 28th by announcing that the third member of this band would be none other than SUGIZO, the lead guitarist from the legendary LUNA SEA.

Since then, there were many rumors as to who would be the fourth member of the band, miyavi being one of them. In December 2006, miyavi stated that he was thinking about joining a band with other musicians he looked up to, further stirring speculation until his joining was announced officially on May 25th, 2007 during his performance at JRock Revolution, a two-day festival held in Los Angeles, California in the US.

Together with YOSHIKI and SUGIZO onstage, not only was it was announced that miyavi would be the second guitarist of now officially named S.K.I.N., but it was also revealed that the band would make their live debut just a little more than a month later at the largest anime convention in the US, Anime Expo.

Thousands of fans of each member of the group flocked to Long Beach, California from all over the world to catch a glimpse of what such a star-studded lineup would make, persevering for hours in sweltering heat for the show. Although no bassist had been announced beforehand, it was revealed at the start of the show that GacktJOB bassist Ju-ken was assuming the role of bass for their live debut.

Their performance at Anime Expo is still currently their only one to date. With each member focusing on their own main solo activities, no release of the handful of songs played that night has been made; however, the members have expressed still having an interest in the band, they merely lack the time to commit. Only time will tell if this 'super band' will ever come to fruition.
