Sel'm was created in the autumn of 2004, the founding members being Tora on vocals, Tsubaki on guitar, Takuma on bass and MANJ" on drums.

After various lives throughout April 2005, the band distributed their first release, -DEVASTATION-, which was limited to only 444 copies. More concerts followed and their next creation Choushou no tsuki, which featured only one track, was released soon after.

The following year, Sel'm played at numerous events and live houses, slowly starting to attract fans and gather more attention. In January 2006, they released their first maxi-single Anthology. A few months later, the band surprisingly cancelled two live shows; it was later announced on their official website that MANJ" had fallen very ill and required hospitalization. Luckily, the treatment he underwent was successful and he was back with the band by April. They continued playing shows with other artists and on June 14th they released their long awaited first mini-album, resistance. Their first one-man, resisted VIII places~Madness of the birth, followed at the Meguro Rock May Kan on September 16th and quickly sold out. Near the end of the year, they released the one-track single N∞℃, which was a great way to wrap up the successes of 2006.

The year 2007 started with another one-man live called Psychedelic Roulette, and the band continued touring throughout March. On April 4th, they released their third single Roido and played two more one-mans before the end of the year. In January 2008, they released their first full album brilliant force and went on their first Nagoya - Osaka - Tokyo one-man tour in May. The culmination of the year was their two day consecutive one-man lives; a surprise to many of their fans, their one-man the Last Supper KEY WORD“4” on November 9th became their last live as a four-member band and, at the one-man Enter upon a new phase-tour08 on November 10th, they were joined by a second guitarist, Nagi (ex-Shulla).

As a five-member band, Sel'm soon released their new single Creature, in which one could hear that the band had started to change their sound. They continued touring not only as Sel'm, but also playing several secret lives under the name DIVE. Another maxi-single followed in September that year and the band continued their live activities with more events and one-man lives.

Finally, after a rather long break in releases, the band's next release was announced; the title track to the new maxi-single ARROWS, which came out in two versions in June and July 2010, became the band's first PV. To support the new release, Sel'm went on a tour they had sponsored, including a two-man with UnsraW and a one-man live.

The start of 2011, however, brought some unexpected news; the band announced the departure of their vocalist Tora and guitarist Nagi. Their last concert with Sel'm was a one-man on April 19th, after which the band went on a year-long activity pause.

In March 2012, the band finally announced their come-back with two new members; vocalist Ryuga and guitarist John. With the new members, the band released the full album illegal other side on May 2nd and played a come-back one-man on May 5th, after which they embarked on a number of successful tours around Japan. Their next release is scheduled to be sold at lives only, starting with their sold-out one-man show on August 19th.
