Although the officially known starting date of the band is given as July 1998, there has been a selftitled demotape, which was released in December of 1997. One possibility is that the given starting date was that of the later lineup rather than the original. The original lineup consisted of vocalist KISUI, the two guitarists Iori and Eika, MAHIRO on bass and Rui as a supporting drummer. The 'second' lineup made the replacements of Kaede on bass and KeiT on drums. This new formation played their first concert in August 1998.
They soon signed under the then well-known Nagoya-based label Donuts Record West and released their first single in January 1999, which was limited to only 1000 copies. Later, they started to play concerts outside of their hometown and so their second single, released in May of the same year, already had a limitation of 3000 copies. After two mini albums, Iori decided to leave around March 2000 and immediately joined Lamiel. In the following time, the band stayed as a quartet.
In September 2000 the band played a oneman tour in the three biggest cities and promoted their first album, which was released in a box together with a VHS. Several smaller tours like [S·S]-slave system and [S·M]-system master, which was another oneman tour, followed. In April of 2001 the band released their first 'real' full album with the title materiel of utopia which was well received by the fans. A few months later, a best of album was released and stated a soon ending of the band.
Although they released four singles and had two omnibus participations, the band only managed one bigger tour, which was meant as farewell for the fans outside of Nagoya. The last concert of this tour was scheduled at Shibuya ON AIR WEST on April 3rd and was released on VHS at the last live at Nagoya Club Quattro on May 1st. This tape, as well as the last live tape, were later released for the fans who had missed the opportunity of Phobias last concert, which had been over two hours long.
After the disbandment, KISUI started two solo-projects. While the first gathered many well known names of the Nagoya scene, such as aie and Toki of deadman, Hikaru (ex-Vizell) and even former Phobia member Iori, the second was a collaboration with Yu-ga (ex-DEViL KiTTY). The latter surprised fans by having the vocalist rapping parts of the songs. After both projects ended, the singer disappeared from the scene until end of 2006, when he came back with the band SIX-R, which he left in Summer of 2008. Since then he hasn’t been noticed on the stage.
KeiT was active in two bands, with the most recent one disbanding as of March 2005. Since then, both he and the other members of the last Phobia lineup have left the scene, although KeiT has been noticed several times playing as support in his hometown.
Only Iori has been continiously active in the scene. His most recent activity was the formation of the band cocklobin in the end of 2008.
