The Starlite Wranglers

The Starlite Wranglers

The band, lead by vocalist/guitarist Tatsuya, was formed in 1990 and originally known as The Storm Riders. According to band members, they are strongly influenced by Stray cats, a pioneer of the 80s, which explains their American-style sound.

When the band was founded, The Storm Riders was a rockabilly band, but due to constant member changes, they soon ended up heading in the direction of psychobilly, for the freedom given by the genre. In 1993, as well as changing genre, they also changed their name to The Starlite Wranglers. The band says that the name is, in a sense, indirectly related to Elvis Presley, At that time, the band consisted of Tatsuya on vocals/guitar, bassist Ishii and Ozawa on drums. Ishii left the band in 1994 and he was replaced by Futoshi. The band energetically continued their activities, holding live performances mainly around Tokyo and Yokohama.

The Starlite Wranglers’ music has been featured on various compilation albums, including Friday Nite Rumble Vol. 3, which was released in 1999 through the label Run Wild Records in the United States. Their first full-length album, Whisper Of The Devil, was released by German label Crazy Love Records in September 2001. In January 2003, the single Rumble was released on 7" vinyl and this was followed by the CD single Europe tour 2003 in July. Their second album, Devil's Wheel, came out in 2005.

The band's music has been said to represent a perfect balance between energetic progressiveness and loyalty to the good old times. Thanks to the growing popularity of psychobilly, The Starlite Wranglers have held various concerts outside Japan, performing in Europe in 2006 and the US in 2007.

At the moment, the band is on a tour in Japan and working on its next release.
