Psysalia Psysalis Psyche

Although the four members of the band all come from different hometowns, they met up in Tokyo and created Psysalia Psysalis Psyche in 2005. All band members had previously been part of other bands, and Psysalia Psysalis Psyche was created when these former bands had dissolved.

The idea for the band name came from Shion, who wanted to incorporate 'jelly fish' in their name and came across the name 'Physalia psysalis', which is a jellyfish-like sea creature. After some misunderstandings and additions, the final name Psysalia Psysalis Psyche was chosen, pronounced as 'saisaria saisarisu saike' in Japanese.

In the early stage of the band, the line-up was slightly different from the current one as keyboardist Mr.R was part of the band. When drummer Kou joined in 2006, the band kicked off their activities for real and in the same year they released the demo CD Psysalia Psysalis Psyche EP. A year later it was voted by "MTV Advance Warning", a program by MTV that promotes new talent, as the number one demo release and the band got the opportunity to appear in an instore live at Shibuya HMV.

Shortly after, Mr.R withdrew from the band for personal reasons, but this didn't stop the band from holding their first one-man performance at Chelsea Hotel in September. They also performed regularly at STYLE BAND TOKYO, an event at which new, international, indie bands are introduced.

The year 2008 brought their first mini-album Psysalism in April, and from then on the band started to put out releases regularly. The single Midunburi was the next one to be put on the market in August 2009, and both this and the album have also been released internationally on iTunes.

The band's first full album, Matin Brun (possibly named after the novel of the same name by Franck Pavloff, referring to anti-fascism), came out in October 2009. Although some gentler songs had been featured on both Psysalism and Midunburi, it was in Matin Brun that the band incorporated a more psychedelic, smooth and dreamy sound next to their punk-rock.

The band created some commotion again as the cover of their March 2011 release, 2.5D, featured artwork by manga artist Maya Miyazaki, who specializes in hentai and created a daring cover for the single. The music video for the song is of the same calibre, with the full version including quite literal guitar-sex.

As 2.5 is the third release in a series of six singles, the band has another three releases in store. For the near future it seems that the band is mostly focused on performing live shows, and hopefully Psysalia Psysalis Psyche won't keep the fans waiting too long for the next single.
