JOSY

An all-female, guitarless pop-rock band heavily inspired by the 1960s, JOSY's music is filled with child-like innocence, a psychedelic vibe, funky keyboards and a healthy sprinkling of punk attitude.

JOSY vocalist Cumi and keyboard player Mami had already been playing together for a while in another group, but it wasn’t until 2010, when they played a live in Shinjuku, met up with bassist Non and drummer Nanohana and shared some whiskies that the band really came together.

JOSY quickly began to draw attention due to their unusual sound, and they released their first single and EP in 2011. The band was also invited to the US that year to take part in the Japan Nite tour, which brought their music to American audiences for the first time. Afterwards, they turned their attention back to playing lives in their home country and put together another EP called To the Light in 2012.

In 2013, JOSY was invited overseas again by Japan Nite, and the tour also extended to Canada for the first time, adding another country to their resume. During one of the US dates they managed to attract the attention of MTV Iggy, and one of their performances was taped and featured on their website, earning the band valuable international exposure. Before Japan Nite, JOSY also hit Europe for the first time, embarking on a brief German tour.

JOSY released their first full-length album NO WAY BACK HOME on October 25th. They held a release party on the same day alongside Yellow Studs, FOUR MINUTES TIL MIDNIGHT and The Electros, which even sold out, but unfortunately keyboard player Mami decided to leave the band following this show due to health problems. The remaining members chose to press on, recruiting various support members to help them out during live performances, and they were invited to a number of prestigious events, attracting more and more new fans.

However, in April 2015, it was announced that JOSY had finally settled on a permanent keyboard player: Mami, who had decided to return to the group.

Now, a quartet once again, JOSY are continuing to chase after their dream, one step at a time.
