Interview with Pour Lui

Just before the DVD/Blu-ray release of eccentric alternative idol group BiS’ last live BiS nari no Budokan on September 24th, former leader Pour Lui spoke to our French team about her time in the group, her connection to France and her future plans.


Can you please introduce yourself?

Pour Lui: I’m Pour Lui, vocalist of the band LUI◇FRONTiC◆ Matsukuma JAPAN.

How did you end up with the nickname Pour Lui, and why use French?

Pour Lui: I wanted to use my first name, Lui. While researching, I realized that “Pour lui” means “for him” in French. My concept at the time was “a singer who sings love songs,” so my nickname became Pour Lui.

Your solo single WHY? is at the JTop on the French TV channel Nolife. Did you know that?

Pour Lui: Yeah I know! It’s awesome!! Thanks!!

Could you explain the concept of BiS (Brand New Idol Society)?

Pour Lui: It means “New idol workshop.” The concept is basically - girls who love idols, study idols and work hard to grow as an idol with a motto of self-sufficiency!

Can you recommend one song from BiS to make someone discover the group?

Pour Lui: nerve. This song makes you wanna dance. It heats up live shows the most. Many different idols still sing it even after BiS broke up. It’s our signature song.

Can you please talk about the Ebizori nerve project?

Pour Lui: This is the project that will leave behind a “nerve” after BiS’s breakup. Many people dance to nerve and upload their videos. Although BiS is gone, nerve has been taken over by many different people so something cool is still happening. nerve lives forever!

The Blu-ray /DVD of your last concert will be released soon, could you tell us more about this concert?

Pour Lui: It was the farewell concert so we did 49 songs non-stop. The time flew by so fast - like a dream - that day. We had so many things we wanted tell our fans, but I’m glad that we were able to keep on going cheerfully with no MC until the end - like BiS - because we thought we would cry if we actually stopped to say something.

Finally, now that the group is over, what did you learn from your experience as part of BiS?

Pour Lui: Don’t give up and keep trying, it’s gonna be alright! When BiS started, we weren’t pretty, and we couldn’t dance or sing. We were helpless. But we tried something weird. We struggled and had troubles, and then all of sudden we realized that we were standing on the stage of Yokohama Arena. I learned that keeping trying without quitting becomes your biggest strength.

Can you tell us more about your future project, LUI◇FRONTiC◆ Matsukuma JAPAN?

Pour Lui: Now, I wanna pursue what I really want to do and make use of the experiences I gained from BiS. It’s not an idol group, it’s a band, so I wanna try to express myself more than ever. I’m gonna go headlong towards the Budokan - somewhere I couldn’t perform with BiS!

Do you have any last words for our readers?

Pour Lui: Because my name,“Pour Lui” is French, I feel close to France. (laughs) I’d love to go to France one day! I couldn’t visit there with BiS but I’ll keep pushing on because I wanna go to France with LUI◇FRONTiC◆ Matsukuma JAPAN!
