Read the story of Capella, who for four years rocked the visual kei scene.
Capella, who performed under the name Kuu until June 2012, started their musical career in November 2010, releasing the two-track maxi-single Kudakechitta sou o kakiatsume kanaDERU wa bokuRA. Despite playing shows in June and July that year, the band’s first official live took place on November 25th at Ikebukuro CYBER.
The next year began with a live at the end of January and a mini-album release, Hajimari no oto, in March 2011. Then Kuu embarked on their first tour, beginning in March at HOLIDAY OSAKA and running all the way through to September, when the tour final was held at Nagoya Holiday.
In March 2012, Kuu signed to BLOOD guitarist Kiwamu’s label Starwave Records. They immediately began performing alongside their new labelmates, playing a show called prosaic theater show at Shinjuku RUIDO K-4, alongside the likes of THE SOUND BEE HD, Life and JokArt au Legal. Just a week later, Kuu joined labelmates Calmando Qual and BLOOD for THE BLACK SHEEP PARADE Vol.1 at Ikebukuro CYBER.
The band’s first release as Capella was the single Utsurikawaru Sekai no Seichouten, which hit stores on Halloween 2012. The next year brought a two-month consecutive release campaign: Wasurebana went on sale in February, followed by reminder in March. Both singles later featured on Capella’s first full-length album, Kokolocate, which came out that August. Kokolocate was a concept album about two lovers who strive to be together even if they are reborn, with the title being a combination of the Japanese words for “heart” and “locate”. The band also made their overseas debut in 2013, performing as the guests of honor at Animethon in Edmonton, Canada.
Unfortunately, all this momentum came to a sudden halt in 2014. The members announced in February that, due to musical differences, they would be going their separate ways in June. They kept going until the very end, however, joining other Starwave Records groups for a label tour before playing their second one-man live Boku to Kimi no Sekai Heiwa in March. This live was released as a limited DVD later in the year.
The band even managed to release its final album, P.S., on April 2nd. Furthermore, Capella’s entire discography, including a number of bonus DVDs and their unpublished final photo set, was put for sale on Starwave Records’s online shop. The band snuck in one more label event on June 16th, Starwave Fest vol. 9 at TSUTAYA O-WEST, before officially disbanding after a final one-man titled P.S. on June 26, 2014.
Since then, the members have remained active in the visual kei scene, experimenting with session groups. When or if any of the members of Capella will return with a more long-term project remains to be seen.
