2014 has been a very good year for
MIYAVI. He performed across three continents with his
"SLAP THE WORLD TOUR 2014", made his international acting debut in the
Angelina Jolie-directed Hollywood film "Unbroken", and put out his 25th single
Real? in September. Now, to end this year of years, the "Samurai Guitarist" has released the digital single
Let Go, made in collaboration with Nashville-based Grammy-winning production duo
Drew and Shannon.
The single opens with just
MIYAVI's electric guitar, playing a bluesy riff that echoes 2006's
Miyaviuta. The main body of the song is typically minimalist, with
MIYAVI's guitar and vocals accompanied by just a thumping backbeat. The chorus, by contrast, borders on dance-rock, with the addition of the sort of electronic melody that figured so prominently on 2013's
MIYAVI. As you'd expect, the quality of the production is immaculate, as are the vocals, which are sung entirely in English.
Only one legitimate complaint can be made about
Let Go: at just two minutes and thirty seconds long, the song can feel like it's over before it's even started. Luckily, it holds up perfectly well to repeat listenings, and is so catchy that most will probably want to listen to it at least three times over anyway.
MIYAVI fans can expect to be humming this for some time to come.
