Fans all over the world had a pleasant surprise recently when VAMPS announced a new coupling song with Finnish band Apocalyptica. Written by VAMPS, SIN IN JUSTICE saw the world on November 20th as a digital release via Spinefarm Records.
The song starts off really powerfully and suddenly, and from the first melodies Apocalyptica's effect on this song is apparent. Fans of VAMPS might find Apocalyptica's sound surprising, but relief soon arrives when the familiar vocals and Americanized rock sound of VAMPS come in. Here, listeners will be able to recognize right away who the lyricist is and longtime fans of VAMPS will be able to hear that HYDE's English speaking skills have improved greatly.
Bursting with mystery, the chorus starts beautifully. A slightly melancholic melody can be heard and the cellists bring an amazing tone to the song. The menacing reiteration of the song's title makes the listener feel as if he/she has been transported to a live concert—a strong indication of how great the song would sound in an actual live.
Overall, this almost five-minute long piece of work is quite typical of the usual work of both bands, but VAMPS and Apocalyptica together manage to still make SIN IN JUSTICE a thrilling ride: the members of Apocalyptica brought a new kind of charm to this song and were able to build a new wholeness with their cellos, while VAMPS did something different from their normal sound. Even if this Japan-Finland cooperation is not the first, this song marks a new milestone in the journey of a friend of Japanese music. It's not everyday that fans get to see a combination like this!
It will be hard to hear the song live as more different bands couldn't have been picked to collaborate with each other, but it wouldn't hurt to take your chance by attending Apocalyptica's Shadowmaker UK Tour 2015 that starts next week, where VAMPS will join the cellists as a special guest for six shows.
