Gackt - DIABOLOS

Gackt - DIABOLOS CD review

Well, it seems Gakuto is up to his old tricks, as just a simple glance through the booklet that comes with Diabolos, his newest full-length album, will show you. His vampiric days have returned and his music has taken a bit of a change as well, as is shown throughout the record. The change is for the better, however, as it is a change for more of a rock sound rather than a poppy one.

The album starts off with an instrumental, called Misty. This really doesn't give you a good impression for the rest of the album as it is very soft and is done in mostly an orchestra-type setting, setting more ambiance to the setting, this is quickly changed as the guitar work for the next song, Farewell breaks through the ambience, bringing you fully into the album.

Aside from the main tracks on this album, Metamorphoze and Todokanai Ai to Shitteita no ni Osae Kirezu ni Aishitsuzuketa..., there are some other notables. I really enjoyed Ash, as it started off with acoustic melodies and the soft vocals, a somewhat welcome break from the crushing synth and drums.

For fans of Gackt this will be somewhat of a change of pace from his normal poppy self, but if you enjoy his vocals and obvious talent then you will enjoy this album, as I have.
