Porno Graffitti is a band that has been around long enough to have hooked countless Japanese people with their catchy lyrics and choruses. Some of their stuff is heavy on keyboards, while other material is so melodic that you wont be able to figure out how many fingers these guys truly have.
This single, however, opts for mid-tempo tunes as a medium for transmitting their message.

As things start off were treated to a cool guitar riff accompanied by synth-violins and a nice little pop beat, giving the single a happy feel right off the bat. The chorus is probably the songs best part, as obvious as that might seem. Sure, its very catchy but the nice subtle piano playing (yes, its there) definitely adds a touch of class. Definitely the apogee of both the song and the single. This song will win over new fans, I can guarantee it. Heck, Im one of them. I couldnt help but like this one!
The solo seems a little out of place amidst the main riff but still manages to impress. I personally enjoy the bridge right after the solo (around 2:53). Reminds me of Duran Durans Ordinary World for a split second.
Great song! Nothing more to say!
02- June Brider
Although slower, this tunes just as poppy as the first. More violins greet us as the acoustic guitar slowly leads us to the chorus. Of special notice is the organ used during the latter, generating what can only be described as 60s groove. Organs make people feel groovy, man. Theres even a happy na-na-na part to make sure you feel the sunshine. However, as psychedelic as this song is, it does come off as being a little bland. You wont pop the disc in solely for this track, thats for sure.
A cool b-side, nothing more.
03- Taneuma Rider
Keyboards, guitars and drums, oh my! This one feels heavier than the other two, mostly due to the low-tone effect Haruichi uses on his six-string. The main attraction, however, is the awesome arena-rock anthem chorus. To top things off, the solo is pure attitude and it rocks just as hard. It all comes together to create a strong and powerful tune that will get anyone off their feet.
A great closing tune! The emphasis on the keyboards gave the whole thing a Janne da Arc feel. Yes, thats a good thing.
There you have it folks. Another fine release from a band that constantly amazes J-music enthusiasts. It wont break any molds but it certainly sets the bar higher for J-pop/rock bands hoping to grab the markets attention.
Stay wild, pups!
OVERALL SCORE: 8/10 for being a very good release that does not disappoint. Sure, June Brider wont blow you away, but its still a good song.
