Kana -moon- in Finland

The second to last gig of Kana’s European tour was held at Gloria in Helsinki, Finland, 1st March 2007. Before the concert, JaME got a chance to interview her during the Japanese street fashion competition during which she worked as a judge. She had to choose the winner right after our interview, so the artist was already in her make-up and dressed up prettily. Kana is a leading figure of lolita-style, and one can frequently spot her in Gothic Lolita Bibles. 

How has your tour been so far? Would you like to tell us how you feel about it?

Kana: The concerts in Paris and Sweden are over now, and I’m really happy there are so many people who have come to see me.

You used only the name Kana before. Where does the new name -moon- come from?

Kana: I wanted people to understand me better in other countries. Aside from the singing, I also make clothes and toys, and draw. The moon itself also has many faces, and I thought it described me perfectly, so that’s why I choose that particular name.

Are your style and your music linked to each other?

Kana: Yes, I’m doing both with the same feeling.

There has been a lot of talk about whether you’re visual kei or not. Your music has inspired many visual kei fans, though. What do you think yourself?

Kana: I’m just doing my own music and my own clothes, and as a matter of fact; I haven’t heard very much about visual kei.   

Your last album was called "spade" and it was released two years ago. Are you working with new material at the moment?

Kana: For this tour I’ve already made two songs in French and one in English. I want to describe my feelings here in Europe with them.     

Would you like to tell us about your concept called “Kana no mori”? (Kana has said before that she wants to create a forest called “Kana no mori” with her gigs and music.)

Kana: While writing the lyrics for the songs I create my very own world, and that’s why I’m talking about a forest around me. I create an atmosphere which depicts me.
