MUCC

When MUCC releases a single, one is never really sure what to expect. This is a band that has experimented with just about every style possible, and Flight is no exception.

Flight itself is an upbeat and enjoyable track right from the beginning; all of the song’s elements come together to make a very feel-good introduction. The verse continues the mood, Miya's ska-like guitar riffs in the background working very well with Tatsuro's almost cheerful sounding voice. The chorus will undoubtedly get stuck in anyone’s head, though this is not something to complain about. The infectious melody of this song will leave you humming it for days, tapping your feet, bobbing your head, and wanting to hear it more and more. Flight is an excellent choice for a single.

The second track, Kanashii Hanashi, is introduced with a distorted, almost jazzy guitar and drum duo, and is immediately quite the contrast to the first track. Satochi's strong drums keep the verse going on into the more powerful-sounding chorus. The vocals are noticeably stronger than the instrumentals but this makes for a good, unexpected sound. The bass line scaling up and down behind the strangely filtered guitar is the perfect choice to accompany the vocals and fits well with the fast-paced drums.

This limited edition of Flight also includes a DVD that contains footage from MUCC's recent European tour.

Overall, Flight is a good representation of the direction that MUCC seems to be heading in, and a great listen for anyone needing a pick me up, whether they are already a fan of the band or not.
