J - CRAZY CRAZY II ~ROAD on FLAMES~

Yet another fiery DVD by J!

The DVD opens with various footage; backstage as well as short onstage clips. This immediately marks what a lot of the DVD is about: documentary footage. However, this doesn't have to bother the fans who would also like to see some decent live footage, as this makes up the other half or so of the DVD.

The first bit of live footage is Evoke The World, shot at the concert on May 20th, 2006 at Hibiya Yagaiongakudo. This is also where most of the other live footage on this DVD comes from, such as the next live video of WHAT'S THAT MEAN?, a rough but excellent performance of the song. After this, we get more live footage, but documentary style: Sixteen live at Shinjuku Loft. The footage is of a very intimate concert at a small live hall.

One of the highlights of the DVD is Suicide Dream, also shot at Hibiya Yagaiongakudo. During this dark song, fire is burning in the background, which makes for a very intense atmosphere and a great performance. Another highlight on the DVD is the following song, an acoustic version of Lost, this time shot at the concert on August 19th, 2006, at Shibuya-AX. It's absolutely a beautiful performance of the song, and the footage is excellent as well. It switches back and forth, varying between footage from the Shibuya-AX with black & white footage from another performance of the song, which gives the performance a melancholic feeling.

And then there's of course a performance of PYROMANIA. It's an intense performance with more fire effects and the audience joining in enthusiastically. While the lights are dimmed, everyone is waving around lighters, and a bit later on everyone is singing along. At the end of the performance, J smashes his bass guitar to pieces.

This live footage and performances are one part of the DVD; the other is the documentary style footage. In this part, we can watch the band both onstage in short live clips, as well as goofing around backstage: Star Wars imitations, Mentos-in-a-bottle-of-coke, and the amusing 'beer heads', amongst others. We can also take a look through MASA's CAMERA: homevideo-type of clips, like the one of the shrimp story and the audience. Of course the band also gives commentary on the tour and the performances.

After the ending credits roll with a summary of the DVD playing in black & white in the background, the DVD ends with the video clip for Fly Away. All in all, this DVD is a mix of interesting and funny documentary and some amazing live footage. This is definitely a must-have for J fans and an interesting to watch for people who may not be familiar with him yet.
