Koda Kumi - LAST ANGEL feat. Tohoshinki

A powerful image song for the Japanese release of the movie Resident Evil Extinction and a sentimental ballad in contrast.

For the Japanese release of the movie Resident Evil: Extinction, Koda Kumi teamed up with the Korean boyband Tohoshinki (DBSK) and created a powerful song.

The single was released in two versions. The CD version included the songs Last Angel, Dear Family and their corresponding instrumentals while the second version came with a DVD of the music video for Last Angel and the making of off-shoot.

One would expect a dark and mysterious song for a movie like Resident Evil:Extinction, but Last Angel isn't like that at all. Last Angel has a catchy, powerful beat that leaves one unable to think of anything except how perfect it is for dancing while listening to it. Though Kumi is the main vocal throughout the whole track, what makes it so special is the perfect harmonization of her voice and DBSK's vocals, together with the synthesized instrumental sounds and the classic violins in the background.

In contrast to the previous strong track, Dear Family is a typical nice ballad with a pretty common sound. To get the listener into the mood, it begins with chimes and a light hearted melody. It's pleasant to listen to Koda Kumi's fairly deep and husky voice, but it's evident that ballads aren't really her forte. Although she manages a decent performance, the song lacks in emotion and feeling.

The two songs aren't comparable on this CD, and it's sad that Dear Family drags down Last Angel. Still, it's not a bad single and definitely a worth listening to.

This is also not the first time Kumi has worked together with other artists, and just as with her previous collaborations you'll definitely find yourself listening to this single again and again.
