AAA - Soul Edge Boy / Kimono Jet Girl

The first double A-side single from the Soul Edge boys and Kimono Jet girls of AAA.

In July 2006, the popular group AAA released their first double A-side single: Soul Edge Boy / Kimono Jet Girl. Three versions of the single were available, all including five tracks. The two DVD versions consisted of a "boys" and a "girls" release, i.e. the DVD of each version coming with the PV of either the boys' song or the girls' song.

This release was used as the image song for the popular Korean online RPG Ragnarok Online. The CD-only version contained a special ticket that could be traded in for an item in this PC game.

The first track starts with a bit of a rock intro, with guitars and pounding drums. But as the title suggests, Soul Edge Boy also has an urban feel to it, specially during the verses. The four male voices sound very mature and smooth, and they give this track a mature feeling. The chorus is catchy and can be defined as a sing-a-long song, it would be a good song for a night of karaoke. It has a pop sound, but the guitars and slight rock influence makes this track a song that will be appreciated by fans of all kinds of music.

Kimono Jet Girl is the second track, and it starts with a very energetic intro. Guitars fall in, giving the track a rock touch, but this track has a more pop feeling than the previous one. The high pitched voices of the girls sound just as energetic as the music. The voices of the girl members of AAA don't sound as mature as those of the guys, they have a more "teenage-pop" feeling. This song can only be described as hyper with lots of things going on. In the second half there is a great guitar solo, and if it weren't for the spacey and pop-like sound effects, this solo could have made you think that this was a hard rock song.

The titles of these two tracks describe the differences between these songs the best. The word "soul" from the first track already hints to the soul/R&B feel, while "jet" suggests something high speed.

The third song, Kirei na sora -1st ATTACK ROUND 2- at SHIBUYA-AX on 24th of March 2006, is a live track. The group starts with a nice a capalla that sounds like it's recorded in a studio, but the screaming of the fans afterwards remind us that it's really live. Next, the instruments can be heard and the band members start to sing. Their voices sound good, but unfortunately because of the live recording, the voices are a bit softer than the music. AAA's male members' singing suits the relaxed sound of this track perfectly.

The instrumental versions of the title tracks can also be found on this release.

Soul Edge Boy / Kimono Jet Girl shows two sides of AAA: the girly, pop, high pitched side and the soulful, calmer, more mature side. In the third track, these two sides come together, and the female and male voices sound good together during the chorus.
