Miura Daichi

In 2007, Miura Daichi released the single Flag, and though he was only nineteen years old at the time, he demonstrated enormous potential already.

With digital vocals and electric synths, complemented by keyboard and a catchy beat, the opening track Flag is immediately ensnaring. The second verse is an interesting duet between just the vocals and a grooving electronic bass. Miura’s urgent vocals in the chorus transmit the emotion and intensity reflected in the love song’s lyrics, and the final chorus in particular shows him letting lose as he sings diverging melodies over the refrain.

The second track has a bit more of an R&B feel. Super Star is full of attitude highlighted by the electronic bass accompanied by rapidly beaten hand drums. Along with Miura’s rap vocals are echoes of a Chinese melody in the synths, and underlining the chorus is a subtle keyboard that softens the general intensity. Like its overall sound, the track’s lyrics are hot and suggestive as he invites the listener into a romantic fantasy.

Flag is an impressive release, catchy and imaginative in its arrangement, and Miura's charisma and talent are clearly evident. For fans of pop and/or R&B, this release is sure to delight.
