This summer, Sel'm promoted their releases Dive and Voice in Kanazawa, spent some time at the beach and performed at Kanazawa AZ.
It was the end of July and yet the rainy season still persisted in Kanazawa. The five members of Sel'm made their way to the Hokkoku Newspaper building in the pouring rain. After a quick bout of hair-fixing, Tora, Tsubaki, Nagi, Takuma and MANJ" recorded comments for Radio Kanazawa, which was situated in the building. Although seeming a bit tired due to their busy schedules, the band members eagerly discussed their mini-album DIVE, how much they are enjoying life as well as their music and the message they would like to send through their music with Hokkoku Newspaper.
At 5:30pm, the members made their way to FM Ishikawa and gave autographs as well as wrote messages for the station’s home page. Then they had a short meeting with a producer, and soon after, the live broadcast Do it! started in the open studio that faced the street. The members opened up to the radio personality Rie Matsuika, and the interview had a very comfortable and easygoing atmosphere. Tsubaki who was wearing sunglasses and looking very cool the whole time was compared to Tamori, a very famous Japanese TV personality which evoked good-natured laughter from the other four members. The five members talked about their live concerts and confessed to saying that they have so much fun on the stage and hope the fans would enjoy themselves as well. They then announced for the first time in this program that their new maxi single VOICE was to be released on September 30. After that they had a brief photo session for the the blog and home page of FM Ishikawa, which concluded Sel’m’s promotion in Kanazawa for the day.
In the evening, the five members went to Uchinada Beach. MANJ" played around in the sand in a very endearing child-like manner and the others splashed in the waves with youthful abandon, refreshing their bodies and minds for their tour which continues into August.
Live Report
stylish wave MAX ’09 was a live event organized by Zy/star child, which was held at Kanazawa AZ on July 30. In total seven bands, -OZ-, Canzel, MoNoLith, Sel’m, CELLT, vistlip and Irokui. appeared in this event.
Typical of stylish wave events, songs by hide were played as background music to set the mood. A sudden electrifying sound rang through the air and the audience began to cheer and welcome the members of Sel’m. MANJ", Takuma, Tsubaki, Nagi and Tora raised their fists into the air as they made their entrance. All the members appeared rather majestic, and Tora, the vocalist, made quite a breathtaking impression on the audience with his newly-dyed jet-black hair. The mood on the stage changed very quickly to dark and heavy, a reason perhaps due to the black costumes of the band members.
They played three songs from their latest release DIVE, a mini-album that was released on May 20. In Daeki, the atmosphere was deathly and zombie-like thanks to the members' low growling and the venue was soon full of head-banging even though the live was only just beginning. When they moved into diagram, four of the members went towards the front of the stage and stirred the fans as heavy riffs as well as clear guitar melodies played harmoniously which resulted in a bright song. “Jump all together!” Tora shouted just as crimson fish started. In the flashing red light, the audience raised their fists and obeyed, while members moved around on the stage and MANJ" hit his drums with all his power and might. The event became even more heated as Akatsuki reverberated into the air and the audience pumped their fists in the air together.
Sel’m finished with the following announcement: “The maxi single VOICE that will be released on September 30 is just great! I believe it will live up to your expectations! Look forward to it!” It is inspiring to see how confident this band is, and hopefully they will stay true to their words and continue to live up to our expectations.
