SuG - gr8 story

SuG's gr8 story is the band's major debut, and it is also one of the first releases with new drummer Shinpei. There is a REBORN version with characters from the anime "Katekyo Hitman REBORN!," as the title track is also the current ending theme for the anime.

Synthesizers are quite a common feature within the current J-music industry, prominent in the current music industry worldwide. Shown through the duration of gr8 story, the title track of the single, each member is edgy and sounds quite excited to collectively create a fun sound. In tandem with the release of the single gr8 story is the new, all-white look for SuG, as seen in the PV for gr8 story. The PV is fun, witty and eye-catching. The members can be seen dressed entirely in white and running around in a slap-stick manner.

In the opening bars of milk tune, Takeru’s voice is unexpectedly smooth and soft like caramel. milk tune contains notably classic themes that are nurtured by SuG in terms of its oshare kei roots. It is also apparent that all three tracks put out the same sound: rather heavy, minor key guitar lines contrasting to an exploratory rainbow during the melody. The general abundance of "happy emotions," found widely in the oshare kei genre, runs rampant.

G☆E☆T☆G shatters all expectations with a single beat of the drums and gritty guitar playing. It sizzles as short, adventurous rushes of synthesizers contrast with the imposing growl Takeru delivers. The raw hiss of the guitar chisels at the slightly off-key vocals. A more inviting melody slithers inward, framing the chorus and altering initial expectations. The melody opens briefly with synthesizers in the background before winding back down a notch to its original gritty state.

All told, gr8 story is well worth the accolades. SuG’s second full-length and latest album, TOKYO MUZiCAL HOTEL, contains all new tracks, including gr8 story.
