Tanimura Nana - Say Good-bye

Tanimura Nana’s debut single, Again, was followed by her second, titled Say Good-bye. There were two versions released; the CD+DVD press features six songs and the video clip of the title song. The regular version only offers three songs plus their instrumental counterparts.

Say Good-bye puts itself into the lime-light through its roaring beats, dark synthesizer melodies and a thick R&B atmosphere. The choir and the panpipes in the back ground make the song a bit more relaxing. Instead of a bridge made of instrumental chords, an unknown man raps the bridge. The lyrics itself speak of the independent, tough women of our time. JEALOUS GIRL promptly attracts attention due its playful guitar chords, balladic charm and Nana’s filtered voice. The song possesses a catchy refrain; there is also a fascinating discordant electric guitar solo.

Gimmick features the hard bass beat again as well as challenging lyrics and singing style. However, some sound effects that sound like they could have come directly from a ghost theme park are mixed in, and there is a dexterous electric guitar solo shortly before the end. The last few tracks are the instrumental versions of all three songs.

For those who want to follow the lyrics with the booklet, they may be hindered by the weird structure and the numerous brackets. It's only until the second song that a system reveals itself. For the ones who invested in the CD+DVD version, the video mostly features dancing scenes with Nana and her two dancers.

With Say Good-bye, Nana presents her independent and cheeky side, which is attractive to all R&B fans. The video isn’t bursting with new or innovative ideas, but it entertains for a short while. On the whole, JEALOUS GIRL and Gimmick are two of the better songs off the single.
