The LEGENDARY SIX NINE - Cruel

The LEGENDARY SIX NINE is Ruka from Nightmare's solo project. Under this name, the single Cruel was released in March. The drummer received help from HAKUEI (PENICILLIN) and hip-hop artist TWIGY during the recording. The limited edition includes two songs written by Ruka and the music video for title number.

Cruel starts with screaming and an energetic melody with dominating drums. It makes you immediately want to headbang and jump - all these elements create a background for the musicians to introduce the band and themselves. Then, the powerful guitar and HAKUEI’s vocals come in. A really interesting fragment is rapped accompanied by cries, sighs and other strange sounds that interweave later with vocalist’s voice. The pace of the song doesn't slow, even for a moment, and is maintained by the chorus, the energetic drums and HAKUEI’s vocals. Because of the diversity in sound, the song doesn’t bore at all, despite its length. The name The LEGENDARY SIX NINE is repeated again at the end of the song, which breaks off suddenly.

Suna no machi is the second track on the limited edition. As you can expect, it is a ballad, beginning with a short recitation accompanied by simple, buzzing guitar playing and a bit of rustling drums. After a while HAKUEI joins in, and his voice is placed in the foreground. During the instrumental parts and the chorus, the music gets heavier, but an impressive guitar solo, enriched by piano, rounds out the song. At the end, the listener is treated again to a recitation, this time with the addition of keyboard notes. Then the music calms down and fades slowly.

The first release of Ruka’s solo project is really solid, with great title song and charming B-side that should appeal to the majority of heavy rock fans. The artists involved in its recording provided their talents to create an impressive outcome. Now we can do nothing more than to impatiently wait for something new from The LEGENDARY SIX NINE.
