Since they formed in 2013, the "SUPER J-POP UNIT" ONIGAWARA have claimed that they are not quite a band and not quite an idol group, but rather a new hybrid of the two.

This year, ONIGAWARA have begun to focus more on playing with the conventions of the idol world. They released two singles that were attached to typical idol goods: Tank Top wa niawanai was sold as a "penlight single" and Shutter Chance '93 as an "instant camera single", with both featuring a download code for the music instead of a CD.

However, the members are far from typical idols - they are both in their thirties and frequently play up their "uncool" style and average looks. So, they have come up with a project to prove that they are worthy of the title before the end of 2016. They are hoping to release a "photobook single" in December. The title of the song has yet to be revealed, but a crowdfunding project to finance the production of the photobook is currently in progress here, and it has already exceeded their goal. Perks offered include everything from an mp3 of the acoustic version of the single to handmade pottery and a pass for all of their independently planned shows.

On the crowdfunding page, both Takeuchi Satifour and Saitou Shinya wrote passionate messages about the project. Takeuchi stated that they feel like a photobook is an essential step to give them the confidence to say "We are idols", while Saitou wrote, "I want to prove that anyone can become an idol at any time."

The video for Shutter Chance '93 and a comment from ONIGAWARA about the photobook project can be viewed below.
