Tokyo-based electropop producer duo ANIMAL HACK and up-and-coming indie band EASTOKLAB released a digital collaboration single on November 11th.
Titled ICE RED, it is described as a dance track that mixes "heavy, throbbing and shimmering digital future bass beats" with analogue band sounds and alt-rock vocals. The two groups share a common background in alternative rock, allowing
them to smoothly fuse together their strengths in indie pop rock and electro hyperpop.
The title ICE RED is a phrase coined by EASTOKLAB, referring to "a flaming red that feels cold to the touch, a fire that once burned so strongly but now is flickering away". The lyrics and emotional vocals are said to depict "the
pain in fleeting relationships on the verge of disappearing, a longing tinged with regret".
The single was composed by both groups, with lyrics from EASTOKLAB frontman Hayato Hioki. It was mixed and mastered by ANIMAL HACK. The artwork was created by N.I.L 1979, who just worked on the music video for ANIMAL HACK's
collaboration single with DJ BUNNY,
Falling Hard feat. BBY NABE, earlier this year.
ICE RED is available for download and streaming worldwide now. Links to find the track on various digital platforms are available here.
