OLDCODEX to Perform "Free!-the Final Stroke Part 1" Theme Song
Rock duo OLDCODEX will be performing the theme for the anime film "Free!-the Final Stroke Part 1", and the song will be getting a CD release on September 15th.
Rock duo OLDCODEX, who previously performed the theme songs for the TV anime series "Free!" and the movie "High Speed! Free! Starting Days", have been chosen again to perform the theme song of "Free!-the Final Stroke Part 1".
"Free!-the Final Stroke" is a movie that serves as the final chapter of the TV anime series "Free!", which has been running since 2013. The movie will be divided into two parts, which will be released on September 17th, 2021, and April 22nd,
2022, respectively.
This as-yet-untitled theme song will also be released as a single on September 15th. The single will be available in a CD-only regular edition featuring jacket artwork that painter/co-vocalist YORKE. created in collaboration with Kyoto Animation.
The limited edition will feature a Blu-ray disc with music videos for all of the songs and jacket artwork exclusively by YORKE..
Regarding their selection to sing the theme song, the members of OLDCODEX have released the following comments:
Ta_2 commented: “Being involved in such a long-running series is a rare opportunity, so we’re going to think carefully about what we can do and give it our all.”
YORKE. commented: “All of our creative collaborations with 'Free!' have left a strong impression, and I’m very attached to them. We will continue working hard on production without forgetting our beginnings.”
OLDCODEX has released numerous songs for the "Free!" series, including Rage On ("Free!" OP), Dried Up Youthful Fame ("Free! -Eternal Summer-" OP), Aching Horns ("High Speed! Free! Starting Days" theme song), and Heading to Over("Free!-Dive
to the Future!-" OP).
Their remix album, Full Colors, which was released this March under the “Re:OLDCODEX” theme, also featured remixes of some of these tracks by DJs and producers such as KSUKE, banvox and Shinichi Osawa (MONDO GROSSO).
