Singer-songwriter Yumi Matsutoya will release a new triple-disc compilation celebrating the 50th anniversary of her career on October 4th.
Yuming Banzai!’s centrepiece is Call me back, a previously unreleased song from 1980 that's been refashioned as a quasi-duet between Matsutoya and her younger self, then known as Yumi Arai. The track, which was produced with the assistance of AI technology, was released as a digital single on the 21st.
The compilation’s three discs will contain a further 50 songs from across Matsutoya’s vast discography, which was all added to streaming services in 2018. The tracklist was selected based on the approximately 20,000 suggestions sent in by listeners to a dedicated request show that ran across 99 Japanese radio stations in May.
A preview of Call me back can be heard below in a commercial for Takara Leben, a real-estate company that's also marking its 50th anniversary this year.
