Ekotumi Unveils New Music Video Filmed in Minato City
Japanese mythology-inspired singer-songwriter Ekotumi recently unveiled a music video for "Dream which you can see in the backside of your eyelids" filmed in her hometown of Minato City.
Japanese mythology-inspired singer-songwriter and multi-talented artist Ekotumi recently unveiled the music video for a new song titled Dream which you can see
in the backside of your eyelids.
The music video was shot in Takanawa, Minato City, which is a “temple town” in Tokyo and the place where she was born and raised. The video is said to be an exploration and reconstruction of her own memories. It is her first video work since
giving birth, and she chose to shoot it in her hometown because pregnancy and childbirth remind her frequently and deeply of her own childhood.
The video is also an official project to promote the attractiveness of Minato City, which Ekotumi describes as “a nostalgic place, as if when you turn the corner, you may get lost in another world beyond time and space,” although she notes that
Minato has another ‘city’ side with attractions like the Tokyo Tower.
A special page for the video on Ekotumi’s website adds a tourist map in English and some extra notes, including an explanation about the difference between
shrines and temples.
Ekotumi commented:
“After giving birth and during raising my baby, I often remember when I, myself, was a child. ‘Agh, once someone touched me like this.’ ‘I grabbed something like my baby a long time ago.’ It's like doing it over again.
It's like retrying what I could not do before.
As if to trace back the thoughts that never came true, the regrets of childhood, and events that
did not make sense when I was a child, the film was shot in the place where I was born, raised and familiar with, as my first video work after giving birth.
I have always felt the daily life from a long, long time ago as I walk around this area, and I have played with many fantasies in my head again and again. Perhaps it is why I sing about Japanese mythology today.”
