Next Music from TOKYO will return to Canada in October, bringing
MASS OF THE FERMENTING DREGS,
sgt.,
uhnellys and
susquatch.
Next Music from TOKYO is a series of tours bringing Japanese bands to Canada, showcasing fresh and talented musicians from Japan.
Next Music from TOKYO!!! vol 2, hopes to build on the success of the first tour and introduce more Canadians to the exciting music which Japan has to offer, as well as giving existing fans a chance to catch these bands, picked for the quality of their stage performances.
MASS OF THE FERMENTING DREGS are a female post punk trio from Kobe, combine a melancholic voice with raw instumental bursts. The band is becoming more and more popular, even signing a major contract in 2008.
sgt., who have been playing in the Japanese post rock scene for a decade, don't hesitate to mix noise or jazz in their tracks and are accompanied by a violinist, giving a special touch to their music.
uhnellys are a multi-talented duo fusing jazz, funk, post punk and even hip-hop elements in their style. Their music is composed by drummer
Midi and the one-man orchestra
Kim, who play bass, guitar, trumpet and beatbox at the same time, making them an extraordinary duo on stage.
susquatch play smooth jazz compositions accentued by aggressive drumming and a unique language somewhere between English and Japanese. These words, created by singer
Kenta, prove that music and vocals can be enjoyed for their melodies and feelings, trancending the language barrier.
All of the bands will play a four-date tour, taking them to three Canadian cities.
Next Music from TOKYO!!! vol 2 will start on October 14th in Vancouver and will visit Toronto for two dates - with one venue currently unconfirmed - before ending on October 19th in Montreal. Further details can be found on the
tour schedule or Next Music from TOKYO's
